Today started with everyone going to site two. The work there was far different than the work at site one. The crew at site two had to remove all of the furniture from the room that required a new linoleum floor. At site one, we just had to demolish things first before we began construction. Site two also had to do some roof work to fix various leaks.
After spending a few hours assisting the crew at site two, everyone else hopped in the vans and went to site one. We continued on our deck work, and people (Hank, Greg, Hannah, Liz, and I) went up on the roof to nail the tin and tar over holes. We also had to cut and secure new cross pieces for the deck. Tim taught Greg and I how to use a power saw. (It was awesome.)
It started raining mid-afternoon, so everyone had to pack up (it was a bit of a frenzy) and ride back to Red Bird.
Once we got back, we had dinner, which consisted of fried chicken. (There were other things for our resident vegetarian Hannah, don't worry.)
There's also a basketball court here at the Mission, so the majority of the kids got together and played. It was really fun, and a nice reprieve from the hard work of the day. To continue the good mood, the Mission serves ice cream on Tuesday's and Thursday's, so that was fantastic. Even better, tomorrow is our day off, so the PRCC group is meeting up with the church group from Central Valley (a NY church), and exploring the area. It should be really fun. Though I almost wish we had more time to work on our sites, since everyone built up a good momentum today.
Until tomorrow
