Day Three

Even though this was the third day of the trip, it was our first full day at Red Bird. It was also our first day at our respective work sites. Liz, Hannah, Hank, Greg, Carol, Ray, and I (Morgan) got assigned to the same work site. Jaqui, Austin, Billy, Renee, and Loriall got assigned to the same work site. I'll refer to the site I was on as 'Site 1', and the other as 'Site 2'.

On sight one, we were tasked with fixing a woman's porch, her front stairs, and her roof. All three were in serious need of repair. We spent most of the day demolishing the existing porch, and removing all the nails from each of the boards, so the wood could be re-used. Our Crew Leader's name was Tim. He was really cool, and kept the mood light by cracking jokes and telling stories as we worked. He also had to go back and forth between the two sites to make sure everyone was doing their jobs correctly.

On site two, it's my understanding that they had to replace someone's floor and windows, and the first day was spent doing that.

Unfortunately, since I was on site one, I couldn't take any pictures of the Rhee site. I will also try to take pictures of the mural my mother, Ann, is painting in the Red Bird Mission Community Outreach Building so everyone can see it. I took before pictures of site one, and pictures of the work as it progressed, so please take a moment to look at those.

Today was a good day. The weather wasn't unbearably hot, and the locals we met (the owners of the home and the families strolling around the neighborhood) were very nice. Everyone's southern accents we're slightly hard to decipher at first, but we're all getting the hang of things.

Until tomorrow
